The O2 store in the Guildhall would like to inform their customers that they will be closing for a refit on Saturday 10th July and will re-open on Saturday 31st July. Store Manager Keir Bellamy said "We are very excited about the new modern shopfit that is planned for the store. We know this will be a little inconvenient for our customers but we are sure the new shop refit will be well worth waiting for". Customers are advised that the nearest alternative store is the one in the Potteries Centre in Hanley.

STAFFORD GADGET FANS QUEUE FROM 4AM FOR NEW iPHONE

Hundreds of excited shoppers headed to the Guildhall Shopping Centre this morning ahead of the launch of the new iPhone.

Gadget fans queued from the very early hours outside O2’s store in the centre, desperate for the first opportunity to buy the iPhone 4. Centre bosses were forced to segregate the huge queues, to allow other shoppers access to the rest of the shops.

And nearby Starbucks supplied free coffee and cinnamon muffins to those who had sacrificed their breakfast to get there for O2’s 8.02am opening time.

The centre’s Marketing Manager Anne Graham said: “We were inundated with excited iPhone fans, with some shoppers getting here as early as 4am!

“At one point, the queues extended right down the road and around the corner!

“The demand was unprecedented and we had to split the queues because other shoppers were struggling to get around the mall.”

Store Manager, Keir Bellamy, said "we were amazed at the number of customers who were waiting for our 8.00am opening. Demand for the 'phone was so high that we actually ran out of stock and have continued to take many customer orders as the day has gone on. This has definitely been the most successful product launch we have ever seen ".

An O2 spokesperson said “This is the biggest iPhone launch that we have seen to date. The queues outside the O2 store was been at least twice as long as in previous years”

On Sunday 15th August the Guildhall Shopping Centre in association with the Donna Louise Children's Hospice are holding a Family Sports Day in Stafford town centre. We are encouraging as many people as possible to come along and bring a pair of wellies with them. At 12.00 noon we will be attempting the "Longest Conga of people wearing a pair of wellies".
